Willie Doesn’t Wanna Be the Last Man Standing or Does He?

Willie Nelson‘s new tune is talking about death but in an upbeat way!  (Thanks to Wide Open Country for the news.)  At the age of 84, country legend Willie is taking a hard look at life and his friends who have passed on in his new song “Last Man Standing.”

Continuing with the reflective theme of his 2017 release God’s Problem Child, Willie pairs upbeat accompaniment with some brutally honest thoughts on life and death.  “It’s getting hard to see my pals check out, hurts like a wore out knife,” Nelson notes, mentioning the deaths of close friends like Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. “I’ve still got a lot of good friends left,” he sings. “I wonder who the next will be.”

“Last Man Standing” is the title track to Nelson’s new record, due out on April 27, just two days before his 85th birthday. The record will feature 11 brand new songs penned by Nelson and producer/collaborator Buddy Cannon.  Check it out here:
