Sometimes you hear a song and think the singer singin’ it is the one who also wrote it…but that’s not always true. So here’s a look at SOME of those you may or may not know about:
Sean McConnell wrote “Somewhere Beautiful” that Wade Bowen covered. They’ve also co-written several tunes together.
Radney Foster (along with G. Sampson) wrote Jack Ingram‘s “Measure of a Man” and “Kiss Me In the Dark’ (with George Ducas) for Randy Rogers Band.
Brandon Jenkins wrote the great “Feet Don’t Touch the Ground” that both he and Stoney LaRue master.
Hinder frontman Austin Winkler (along with Hinder bandmates) wrote “Lips of Angel” that Jack Ingram made his own several years ago.
Brian Keane penned “I’ll Sing About Mine” that Josh Abbott had a major hit on.
Keith Gattis wrote “El Cerrito Place” that Charlie Robison kicked ass on.
Matt Powell wrote Bleu Edmondson‘s signature tune, “50 Dollars and a Flask of Crown.”
Django Walker actually wrote Pat Green‘s “Texas on My Mind” while living and going to school in England.
Kacey Musgraves along with Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark wrote “Mama’s Broken Heart” for Miranda Lambert.
The amazing Bruce Robison has had several hit tunes covered by Nashville stars including: “Angry All The Time,” “Travelin’ Soldier” and “Wrapped” as well as many co-writes with his older brother Charlie.
And then going waaayyyy back to some oldies but goodies: Jerry Jeff Walker covered Guy Clark‘s “L.A. Freeway as well as “Desperados Waiting For a Train.” He also covered the famous Ray Wylie Hubbard tune “Up Against The Wall, Redneck Mother.” As well as Gary P. Nunn‘s “London Homesick Blues.” And speaking of Gary P., he also wrote Willie Nelson‘s “The Last Thing I Needed The First Thing This Morning.”
There are so many more examples! Bottom line: is great music comes from the heart, it just may not be the heart you think it came from! 🙂
