Lots of great things happen in October. There’s the changing of the seasons with the start of fall and there’s all the costumes, candy and fun of Halloween. But this year, the 20th may well be the best day of October. Why? Because it is going to be one of the BEST days for new music we can remember. Coming out on the 20th will be:
Turnpike Troubadours The new album from Turnpike Troubadours, their fifth, is called A Long Way From Your Heart. Front man Evan Felker says, “This whole record is about resilience in the face of tragedy––tragedies of different sizes. Just getting your nose down and dealing with it.” Listen or pre-order HERE. The official store has exclusive cd packages including a clear vinyl version. They will be performing at The Criterion/Oklahoma City on release day. Tix HERE.
Margo Price All American Made, Margo’s second album, is described by her label as: “Highs and lows, long nights and hard days, wild women and cocaine cowboys, politics and sexism, it’s all in there, singularly filtered through Price’s wry, no-bullshit perspective. Throughout the album, her contemporary take on classic sounds is at once familiar and daring, an infectious blend of Nashville country, Memphis soul, and Texas twang that tips its cap to everyone from Waylon and Willie (who makes a guest appearance) to Loretta and Dolly, all while flipping a middle finger to the cookie-cutter pop that dominates modern country radio.” You want it now, right?! Find it HERE.
Willie and the Boys Willie’s Stash Vol. 2 is the follow up to, you guessed it, Willie’s Stash Vol. 1. Featured this time, instead of Willie Nelson and his sister, Bobbie, is Willie and his sons Lukas and Micah. The trio perform a selection of well-loved American country music standards and classics, including seven penned by the immortal Hank Williams Sr. According to Willie, the album is “….kinda like the country version of Stardust. Where you have all these great songs and standards that the young people have never heard, then all of a sudden you have a whole new audience out there.” Buy it HERE.
Mike Ryan Mike’s third album, titled Blink You’ll Miss It , is the follow up to 2014’s Bad Reputation, which produced a string of hits like “Dancing All Around It.” The new album is available HERE for pre-order and has led off with the singles, “New Hometown” and “Sad Song.” Check out the video for “Sad Song” below(exclusively premiered on The Boot), and find Mike and the band performing at Cowboys Dance Hall/San Antonio on the 20th.
