Happy Birthday Billy Joe

It’s Billy Joe Shaver’s 78th birthday (August 16)!

Billy Joe may not be a household name to many outside of Texas but the man has written a ton of great songs that have been recorded by Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Tom T. Hall, Bobby Bare, Allman Brothers and Elvis.   He’s released over 20 albums from 1973’s Old Five & Dimers Like Me through last year’s Long In the Tooth.  Among his many classic songs are “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be a Diamond Some Day),” “Honky Tonk Heroes,” “Georgia on a Fast Train,” “Live Forever,” “Tramp on Your Street,” and “Try and Try Again.”

This man is a legend and continues to perform well over 200 dates a year!

Here are a few more of our fave tunes:

“Black Rose”

“Love is So Sweet”

“The Git Go”

“You Asked Me To”

“Hottest Thing in Town”

“When the Fallen Angels Fly”

“When Word Was Thunderbird”

“Wacko from Waco”

Hope you have a great birthday, BJS!
