Acclaimed Austin guitar craftsman, Bill Collings passed away Friday. Collings was the founder and CEO of Collings Guitars, which are renowned for their quality and sound. Included on the list of artists who own and play Collings instruments are Bruce Robison, Jerry Jeff Walker, Lloyd Maines, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen and Lori McKenna.
Ray Benson posted on Saturday, “We have lost one of the greatest guitar designers and builders in America and the World in Bill Collings. Collings Guitars and Mandolins are the finest instruments, rivaling the greatest classic guitars and mandolins of the past. His instruments are so coveted by players and professionals the world over. I’ve yet to find someone who doesn’t love their Collings or hope someday to have their own.” Ray posted this pic of him playing his Collings guitar, saying, “This year in March, I got this custom Collings guitar in the photo below on my birthday. I was speechless and honored to be able to have a one of a kind guitar from a company that strives everyday to achieve greatness and build every instrument they make to the highest standard possible. It was bittersweet to play my Collings on stage last night, but will take great pride and joy honoring Bill, playing this instrument to the best of my ability till I can’t play any longer! RIP you rascal! You will be missed greatly and remembered forever.”
