Austin City Limits‘ official staff photographer – Scott Newton Photography – has a gallery show opening of his life’s work this Saturday at Modern Rocks Gallery in Austin.
If Austin is the “Live Music Capital of the World,” Scott Newton is its official photographer. Newton’s work spans the early days of Austin’s Legendary Armadillo World Headquarters to chronicling performances as the official photographer for the world famous Austin City Limits show on PBS. Newton arrived in Austin just as the sleepy college town’s music scene was beginning to take off.
From early shots taken in the early 1970s at the Armadillo World Headquarters to his career with Austin City Limits TV show and other concert photography, Newton has described himself as a phantom of the music venue, capturing musicians from the shadows backstage and during performances. Just a few of the folks captured by Newton: Bonnie Raitt, Fleetwood Mac, Rusty Weir, BB King, Asleep at the Wheel, Lou Reed, Jimmy Buffet, Leon Russell, Jerry Jeff Walker and so many more. This collection is incredible!
