The uber cool Ray Wylie Hubbard is doing it again…he’s piquing the interest of many a music fan including this one, with the announcement that his new CD, The Ruffian’s Misfortune, will be released April 7!
Ray told RollingStone.com that at least one song on this album tips the hat to the chick rockers. The tune, “Chick Singer, Badass Rockin'” name-checks Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde. Ray said the song was borne of his admiration for free-spirited female rockers. “I was inspired by the wild young fems who care less about pop music, who bleed rock and know how to play an E chord without the third,” he says. My favorite part is that the lyrics also call out Nashville country as “pissant!” Love that he used THAT term! 🙂
Packing 10 brand new songs into just under 34 minutes, The Ruffian’s Misfortune is what Ray and team call the tightest and most focused record of his career; it will also be his first record to be pressed on vinyl in more than 30 years. SWEET!
Ray has also said that, “This record is pretty much where I am as far as trying to make records that work on a couple of different levels, by laying down a groove with cool guitar tones and vicious nasty licks with lyrics that have a little depth and weight and even a little humor thrown in, too, as life is pretty much like that.”
The other big announcement is that RWH will release his memoirs later this year!
I am one excited music fan…wait, scratch that, I am one excited Ray Wylie music fan! Come on April 7!
